In November 2025, Microsoft released a new version of the MS SQL 2025 server.

The latest version of MS SQL Server 2025 is compatible with the new Asix package and can be used to the same extent as the previous MS SQL 2022 + CU01 version.

SQL Server 2025 no longer includes SSRS (Reporting Services) as a separate component.
Microsoft has announced that SSRS has been replaced by Power BI Report Server (PBIRS), which from the Asix perspective is fully compatible with the existing Reporting Services service.

The free version of MS SQL Server 2025 Express does not, by default, include SSRS or the new Power BI Report Server, which requires a license.

For the free MS SQL Server 2025 Express version, existing SSRS components from version 2022 can be used.

This means that it is possible to install SQL Server 2025 Express together with the SSRS (Reporting Services) 2022 service.

For MS SQL Express 2025, the database size limit has been increased to 50 GB.
Previously, the maximum database size for the free server was 10 GB.

According to analytical sources, support for SSRS version 2022 will continue until January 11, 2033.
